The metro question, answered

There is no metro from Delhi to Mathura. The Violet Line ends at Raja Nahar Singh in Ballabhgarh, and from there Mathura is still about 90 km. Some people take the metro to Ballabhgarh and then a bus or shared taxi, but the total journey takes 4 to 5 hours and involves at least two changes.

If you are a solo traveller on a tight budget, the train is simpler than the metro-plus-bus combination. If you are two or more people, a cab is faster and costs about the same per head.

What the drive is like

The Yamuna Expressway is the easy part — six lanes, light traffic, about 90 minutes from Noida to the Mathura exit. The Mathura exit itself is where you slow down: the last 12 km into the city is ordinary two-lane road with temple traffic.

If you are going to Vrindavan first, take the Mathura bypass and approach from the north. Banke Bihari temple is in the old town, where the lanes are too narrow for a car — the driver parks on the main road and you walk the last 5 minutes.

Mathura and Vrindavan together

Vrindavan is 12 km from Mathura and adds about 1 hour plus your temple time. The usual circuit is Krishna Janmabhoomi and Dwarkadhish in Mathura, then Banke Bihari and Prem Mandir in Vrindavan. Prem Mandir is best after dark when it is lit.

Temple timings matter. Many temples close in the afternoon and reopen in the evening. Banke Bihari is busiest at the evening aarti. Tell the driver which temple is your priority and he will plan the order.

What the cab costs

Delhi to Mathura one-way starts at ₹1,500 for a hatchback and ₹1,800 for a sedan. Innova is ₹3,000 and Crysta ₹3,600. A Delhi–Mathura–Vrindavan–Delhi day trip in a sedan is usually around ₹3,500–4,000 including waiting, depending on your pickup point.

Tolls are about ₹240 on the expressway plus UP state tax. Ask for an all-inclusive quote if you do not want to pay them separately.
