Delhi to Agra distance — by road, train and air

The short answer: Delhi to Agra is 233 km by road, about 195 km by rail, and roughly 220 km from IGI Airport. A car takes 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours on the Yamuna Expressway; the Gatimaan Express train takes about 1 hour 40 minutes. Which one is faster for you depends on where in Delhi you start and where in Agra you need to be.

Distances are road/rail distances, not straight-line. Times assume normal traffic and one short break by car.

Why the road distance is longer than the rail distance

The railway runs almost straight from Delhi to Agra. The road has to swing east around Noida and Greater Noida before joining the Yamuna Expressway, which adds about 38 km. That is also why the car is not automatically slower: the expressway is six lanes with almost no traffic signals, so you cover those 233 km at a steady 90–100 km/h.

The real variable is the Delhi end. From Gurgaon or Dwarka, add 45–60 minutes just to reach the expressway. From Noida, Mayur Vihar or East Delhi, you are on it in 20 minutes. If you are staying in South Delhi, the airport route via the DND Flyway is usually quicker than going through central Delhi.

How long does the drive actually take?

  • Delhi (Noida / East Delhi) to Agra: 3 hr 15 – 3 hr 45 min
  • Delhi (Central / South Delhi) to Agra: 3 hr 45 – 4 hr 15 min
  • Gurgaon to Agra: 4 hr – 4 hr 30 min
  • IGI Airport to Agra: 3 hr 30 – 4 hr
  • Agra to Jaipur: 4 hr 30 – 5 hr
  • Delhi to Jaipur: 5 hr – 5 hr 30 min

Add 30–45 minutes in winter fog (December–January) and on long weekends.

Tolls and running cost by car

A car pays roughly ₹415 in tolls on the Yamuna Expressway for the full Delhi–Agra stretch, plus UP state tax at the border. Fuel for a sedan works out to about ₹1,600–1,900 at current prices. That is why a one-way sedan fare of ₹2,800 is not a marked-up number — it is close to the actual cost of running the trip, with a small margin for the driver's return.

If you are comparing a cab against driving your own car, remember parking at the Taj Mahal (Shilpgram / East Gate), the driver's food, and the fact that you cannot sightsee and drive at the same time. For a day trip, a hired car is usually cheaper than own-car plus parking plus fatigue.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Leave by 6:00 AM, reach Agra by 9:30 AM, see the Taj and Agra Fort, and be back in Delhi by 8:00 PM.
